Coffeyville - George E. Mann, 90, of Coffeyville, passed away Saturday morning, April 23, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born May 9, 1920 at Independence, KS to Edwin and Sarah (Norris) Mann. Mr. Mann grew up and attended school in Independence, graduating from Independence High School and Independence Junior College. On June 29, 1941, he married Emma Read Johnson at Nowata, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Independence where Mr. Mann was a printer. On May 4, 1944 he joined the U.S. Army serving during World War II with the 28th Bombardment Squadron in the Western Pacific and Japan Air Offensive until receiving an honorable discharge on December 31, 1945. Following his discharge he returned to Independence where he operated a Printing Company. In 1960 they moved to Rogers, AR where he worked for Press Publishing. In 1963 they moved to Tyler, TX where he was Manager of Story, Wright Printing Company until retiring in the mid-1980's. Following his retirement they continued to make their home in Tyler, his wife preceded him in death in 1999. In 2006 he moved to Coffeyville to be closer to his daughters and their families. Survivors include two daughters, Georganna Verge and husband Willis of Rogers, AR, and Kay Bixby and husband Jim of Coffeyville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one daughter, Sherrie Lea Wisby of Tyler, TX. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Tyler Memorial Cemetery in Tyler, TX with his grandson Bryan Verge of Harrison, AR officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the American Heart Assoc.; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
