Sedan - Larry Max Wolfe, age 83, was born on January 8, 1928 in Chautauqua, County, Kansas. He passed away on April 2, 2011 at Garden Terrace Care Center in Overland Park, Kansas. He was the oldest of twelve children of Leslie A. and Rosa B. (Watson) Wolfe. Larry is a member of the fourth generation of both the Wolfe and Watson families to live in Chautauqua County. After graduation from Cedar Vale High School, he joined the US Army and served a short time before returning home to help care for his ill father and younger siblings. Throughout his life he worked in occupations of farming, milk truck operator, heavy equipment operator, dairy farm worker, cafe owner and janitor of the First National Bank in Sedan. Larry loved hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He was a supporter of the annual Fun Fish Clinic, catching and cooking many fish for the attendees to enjoy as well as helping the next generation his love of fishing. In 1953 he married Loydene White at Cloverdale, Kansas. Five children were born to this marriage: Dean, Connie, Leonard, Roger and Melvin. Loydene and Larry were later divorced and he married Elizabeth M. Wemmer Lawson in Sedan, Kansas. Elizabeth preceded him in death on January 10, 2009. He is survived by his children: Dean Wolfe and wife Sandy of Elk City, Kansas, Connie Meyer and husband Doug of Greeley, Kansas; Leonard Wolfe and wife Beth of Marysville, Kansas; Roger Wolfe and wife Mary of Topeka, Kansas; Melvin Wolfe and wife Maureen of Perry, Oklahoma; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are stepdaughters, Mary Casady of Oregon and Carolyn Lawson of Sedan. Surviving siblings are Bonnie Munday of Caney, Willa Bea Shull of Sedan, Goldie Mae Seibel of Arkansas City, Clara Ann Roebuck of Chautauqua, Phoeba Irey of Menifee, California, Louise Shenoy of Orange, California, Leslie Ray Wolfe of Sedan, Treva Douglas of Lyons, and Twila Dumond of Lyons. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dale Lee Wolfe and sister Bernyce Campbell. Family and Friends may call Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. Family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Church Services will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Reverend Gene DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan. The family has suggest memorials to the Fun Fish Clinic and those condolences may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
