Thelma Elizabeth (Spencer) Burden was born October 3, 1914 to Robert and Florence (King) Spencer near Alva, Oklahoma. She attended school in Freedom, Oklahoma.
She met and married William Harold (Bill) Burden in 1930 in Freedom, Oklahoma. To them were born two sons, Robert Burden and Billy Burden.
The majority of her life was spent living in Sedan, Kansas, where she attended the Church of Christ. She enjoyed camping with her husband and going fishing. She loved to crochet afghans, making quilts for her grandchildren, and loved to sew clothes for her granddaughters. Thelma travelled all over the country with her son Billy.
She was also the namesake of the Mrs. Burden's Gourmet Candy Company based out of Sedan. Her holiday meals were legendary.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, both sons, two brothers (Leroy and Eliza) and one sister (Gladys).
She is survived by one sister-in-law (Virginia), two daughters-in-laws (Frances and Joyce), five grandchildren (Rhonda, Jan, Roben, Debbie and Steve), seven great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren. Plus a host of nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.
Family and Friends may call Monday, April 4, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
Church Services will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ with Joe Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.
The family has suggest memorials to the Church of Christ and those condolences may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
