I know this sounds odd, But I find myself having a book handed down to me, I thought may have belonged to one of your Ancestors?
A. G. DAVIS ELK CITY, Kan. Any relation of yours? 1800-1900s.
I have a signed book from 1898. There is a slip dated 1901, for Mrs A.G. Davis. in the book as well, if you know they were, I guess you could tell me what type of book this may be? I with held this info. so I can hopefully place this book in the hands of a family descendant, if they would like to have it.

Sedan HS had a profound effect on me because there are many good peple there. Coach Les Davis is one of them. I knew his son Chris who was the only one to beat me in the one on one basketball tournament that coach Davis set up for us at Sedan High. Chris, I'm sorry for your loss. Glad you beat me. I'm sure that made your father proud. God bless, Love Mark Floerke the principles son.

I was saddened to here of the loss of Les Davis, coach, husband, father, grandfather, and just great person.. I officiated some the games that he coached in Sedan. What an example of a great coach. He was teaching in everything that he did. I have had a lot of great conversations with Les which I learned a lot by just talking to him. You could tell he connected with his players. Les's memories will live on and I'm sure he is still coaching in heaven.

Our prayers are with you Mary, Randy, Mark, Criss and the entire family! I have been reflecting on Coach Davis and all the incredible "coaching moments" I experienced with him for 4 years of three sports. He was intense, dedicated and was one that would never give up and he instilled that same "don't give up attitude" in everyone that played for him. He would get in my face let me know what I was suppose to do or change and then follow up with me, "Loyd the only reason I chewed you out, is that I know you can be a better player and I care about you as an athlete and as a person." Still today I set in my office in McPherson, KS 32+ years later dealing with a difficult situation and I can hear Coach Davis say to me, "Suck it up Loyd, you can do it"! GREAT memories, life lessons taught and still today if Coach would tell me to take the field or court I would fight for first in line! Thanks Coach for the "life lessons" you taught me!

I want to express my deepest sympathy to the entire family. I officiated many games in all 3 sports that Les coached. I felt we were closer than a coach-official relationship. We had many conversations away from the playing fields. He was a fine man and positively influenced many young people.

I will never forget when my son Andy who played for Mark was in the hospital in WIchita after being in an automobile accident and Les Davis came to the hospital to check on him.
Maya Angelo said, "people may not remember what you said to them, and they may not remember what you did for them, but they will always remember how you made them feel." That short visit had a real impact on that young man, and a memory his mother will never forget. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, his many players and the entire community.

Mary, Randy, Mark, Criss, and family:
We are sorry for your loss. Les was an influence on all our lives, and in our case five boys who played sports for him. He taught the kids he coached the value of hard work, teamwork, and obeying rules. We couldn't attend a sporting event without someone talking about Les when we told them where we were from. His reputation extended throughout Kansas.

Mary, Randy, Mark, and Criss and all your families-
Coach was a wonderful man who shaped more lives than any of us will ever know. Tom once told me, "It's hard to play for the rest when you've been coached by the best. Coach Davis was definitely the best." Coach touched all our livesnot just with a smile or kind word, but with high expectations, real understanding, sportsmanship, and integrity. I know Tom was first in line to welcome him to Heaven. Our whole family has nothing but admiration for Les. He was the best. Your in my thoughts and prayers.
