Madeline Rosemary Moore, 87, of Coffeyville, KS passed away February 21, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born January 28, 1924 in South Coffeyville, OK to Mary (Haynes) and John Purkey. Madeline attended Lenapah High School and was the Valedictorian of her class.
On December 24, 1942 she married Leo Moore at Coffeyville.
Madeline was the first female District Manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where she worked for 40 years before retiring in 1982. She was very active in the community and a long time member for the First Baptist Church of Coffeyville. Madeline was a past Matron in Eastern Star three times and was also Marshal for the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star.
Her interest included the Cultural Arts Council, Daughters of the Nile, bridge club, book review and most sports especially from the University of Oklahoma.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mary and John Purkey, Both brothers Cecil Purkey and Arthur Purkey, and three sisters May Perdue, Elsie Brooks, and Helen Webster.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Leo Moore, son James and his wife Mary Moore; Two grandsons, James and his wife Alicia Moore and their two children, Avilene and Leo, and Monte and his wife Shayne and their two children, Spencer and Emily Grace; and many close friends.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday February 25, 2011 at First Baptist Church, 300 West 9th, in Coffeyville with Rev. Randall Terrill officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call on Thursday February 24, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the charity of the donors choice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
