Florence Frances Burns, 84, of Sedan, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at the Sedan City Hospital.
She was born on September 24, 1926 in Rural Osage County, Oklahoma to Arthur C. and Ethel J. (Hines) Slaughter. She attended school at Cedar Vale graduating from Cedar Vale High School. After high school she worked as a cosmetologist and cut hair for many years before receiving her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Allen County Community College. She later worked at many hospitals and nursing homes in the area.
In 1948, she married Leo "Cotton" Burns in Cedar Vale, Kansas. They later were divorced. She was a lifelong resident of Chautauqua County.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Sedan. She enjoyed crafts, flowers, gardening, and the outdoors. She especially loved her dog Missy.
She is survived by her two sons; Mike Burns of Sedan, Kansas and Steve and wife Janelle Burns of Edmond, Oklahoma; One brother, Don Slaughter of Belleville, Kansas; Six Grandchildren and One Great-grandchild, and numerous family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and one sister.
A memorial service will be held Monday, February 14, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Sedan with Reverend Paul Stetz officiating. Inurnment will be held at Elgin Cemetery in Elgin, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the Assembly of God Church Building Fund and remembrances may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
