Gladys I. (Williams) Clark, of Coffeyville, formerly of Independence passed away this morning at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.
Gladys was born May 17, 1920 at Sycamore, KS to George M. and Myrtle F. (Hudiburg) Williams. She grew up in the Sycamore and Independence area where she attended school, graduating from Independence High School.
In 1941, she married George J. Clark at Kansas City, KS. While her husband served in the Army during World War II Gladys worked in a Defense Plant in Chicago. Following the war they moved to California where she worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for many years. After her husband's death in 1997, she returned to Independence to make her home until moving to Coffeyville over four years ago.
She was an active member of the First Church of God in Coffeyville.
Survivors include one brother, George Williams of Independence; one adopted son, Ronald J. (Clark) Perry of New Orleans, LA; one foster son, Jerry D. Clark of Bonners Ferry, ID; one grandson, Richard J. (Clark) Perry of Hemet, CA; many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren living all over the United States; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2010 at the First Church of God, 5th and Cline, with Rev. Mark Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.
Friends may call on Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the First Church of God; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
