Coffeyville - Ferne Wood, 95 of rural Coffeyville, passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at Easton Hospital in Easton, PA. She was born September 30, 1915 at Drumright, OK to Arthur and Pearl (Price) Fiensy. Ferne attended school in several different locations while her father worked in the oil fields, when she was ready to start high school her family moved to Winfield, KS where she attended Winfield High School graduating in 1933. On September 8, 1934 she married Drue Wood at Winfield. After their marriage they moved to the Snow Creek area in Labette County where they lived until moving to the Blackford School area south of Valeda, where they operated a Dairy Farm for many years. Mr. Wood preceded her in death in 2002. Mrs. Wood was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Altar Society, devotion to Divine Mercy, a 4-H leader for many years teaching sewing, loved to play Bridge with Bridge Clubs in Valeda, and Edna, and a Duplicate Bridge Group in Coffeyville, a member of a Home Demonstration Unit and served many years as a Treasurer for Howard Township, Ferne was also a member of the Valeda Royal Neighbors. Survivors include her daughter, Jolene Flaharty and husband Ray of rural Coffeyville; four grandchildren, Mickey Malowney and husband Pat of Bethlehem, PA, Grant Flaharty and wife Heidi of Grand Junction, CO, Shaun Flaharty and wife Evelyn of Stamford, CT, and Vanessa Butchko and husband Tom of Whitewater, CO; six great grandchildren, Bobi Teehee and husband Danny of rural Coffeyville, Lance Trott of Bethlehem, PA, Tara Flaharty of Grand Junction, CO, Erin Flaharty of Manhattan, KS, Paddrick Flaharty of Coffeyville, and Raeleigh Berger of Grand Junction, CO; two great-great-grandchildren, Kyndra Teehee and Lillie Teehee; and two step-great-great-grandchildren, Jared Butchko, and Cassidy Teehee; two nieces, Kitty Gail Fiensy of Evansville, IN, and Deann Fiensy; and two nephews, Dr. David Fiensy of Grayson, KY, and Christopher Fiensy of Columbus, OH, sister in-law Maxine Fiensy of Grayson, KY. Ferne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two infant sons, and one brother. A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic School; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
