Coffeyville - Carl Ward Hartzell, 93, of Coffeyville, died Monday, December 27, 2010 at his home. He was born November 11, 1917 at Wellington, KS to Harry and Elizabeth (Rowland) Hartzell. He grew up and attended school in Grant County, OK. Carl was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He moved to Coffeyville in the 1940's. He married Laura Frazee, together they had three sons, they were later divorced. Carl married Virginia Miller, they had two children. Virginia survives at the home. He was a Security Guard for many years at Spears Mfg. at Caney retiring in 2009. Carl was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed gardening and reading, and loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Virginia of the home; four sons, Forrest James Hartzell, Jewell Ward Hartzell, David Hartzell, and James Hartzell all of Coffeyville; one daughter, Carla Andres of Independence; one half sister, Mary Ella Burney of Austin, TX; four grandsons, two granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one half sister. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2010 at Grace Fellowship, 2455 Woodland Ave. in Coffeyville with Rev. Charles Pitts of Central Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
