Raymond LaVern Shivers, 83, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas surrounded by his wife and three sons.
Raymond was born October 31, 1930 in Ottawa County Kansas, where he graduated from high school in Delphos, KS. Raymond married Phyllis Maxine (Kiser) on September 19, 1948 at the Presbyterian Church in Delphos. Raymond and Phyllis had 4 children: Brenda (Peter Boxer) Shivers; Kelvin (Janet) Shivers; Mitchell (Sherri) Shivers; and Michael (Lisa) Shivers; as well as, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents William Preston Shivers and Mary Catherine (Fredricks) Shivers, four brothers, three sisters and daughter (Brenda DeRae Shivers).
Raymond had a variety of work experiences in his youth and young adulthood (farming, custom harvesting, highway construction, owner/operator of a bulk fuel delivery service and filling station services, etc.) prior to beginning his career with Farmland Industries (Phillipsburg, KS, Bartow, FL, and Coffeyville, KS). Raymond worked for Farmland from 1953 until January 1993, where he retired as the maintenance superintendent for the Coffeyville Refinery.
Raymond was a member of the Coffeyville First Presbyterian Church where he previously served as Deacon and Elder; he also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish-Rite of Freemasonry, and Mirza Shrine.
Family will celebrate Raymond's life in a private service with interment to follow at the Cherryvale, KS Fairview cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Mid-America Chapter or the Coffeyville First Presbyterian Church; contributions may be left with or mailed c/o David W.
