Sedan - Jimmie J. "Jay" Kennedy, age 69, of Elk City, Kansas passed away Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Caney Nursing Center in Caney, Kansas. He was born December 30, 1938 in Cedar Vale, Kansas to Emory and Alta (Smith) Kennedy. He grew up and attended school in Cedar Vale, Kansas until he joined the United States Marines. He served in the Marines from 1956 to 1962. He married Wilma Jean "Jeannie" Runyan on January 26, 1962 in Wichita, Kansas. They moved to the Chautauqua area in 1976, where they made their home. He was a heavy equipment operator for Amino Brothers Construction Company in Kansas City, Missouri, retiring from there after forty years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, running equipment and creating new things. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie of the home in Elk City, Kansas; two sons, James A. Kennedy of Elk City, Kansas and Robert Kennedy of Sedan, Kansas and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Cremation has taken place and family and friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday, January 24 and 25, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Belknap Cemetery located south of Moline, Kansas with Allen L. Runyan and Hospice Chaplain Mike Graham officiating. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Belknap Cemetery Fund or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
