Carrol Blaine Burch, 86, died December 14, 2010, at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas. He was born November 10, 1924, north of Sedan to John and Nella (Lamb) Burch.
Carrol graduated from Sedan High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg, Kansas. In 1942 at age 18 he joined the military as a Naval Aviation Cadet, being commissioned as a 2Lt in the Marine Corps during World War II, where he flew the F4U Corsair in the South Pacific. He married Jeanne Tippie on November 11, 1944. During a 26-year Marine Corps career, he served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War before retiring in 1968 as a Lt. Colonel, and he also received his Bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University while in the service. After retirement Carrol and Jeanne returned to Sedan where he served as Probate Judge in the Chautauqua County District Court for eight years before owning and operating Burch's clothing store. Among other organizations, Carrol was a member of the VFW, Sedan United Methodist Church, Sedan Chamber of Commerce, the Lion's Club and the Sedan Country Club. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jeanne, brothers Doyle and Wesley and sister Beatrice.
Carrol is survived by his daughter Pamalyn Barnes and husband Bob of Bella Vista, Arkansas; by his daughter Cindy King and husband Larry of Sedan, Kansas; by grandchildren Gary Todd Barnes, Tracy Jeanne Barnes, Jason Godfrey, Matthew Godfrey and Daniel Godfrey, along with nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Family and Friends may call on Thursday, December 16, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Church Services will be held Friday, December 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sedan with Reverend Jerry Bever and Reverend Paul Stetz officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.
The family has suggested memorials to Union Chapel and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and those remembrances can be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
