Jimmy "Jim" Olin Clapp, age 72, of rural Pawhuska, Oklahoma passed away Monday, January 21, 2008 at his home in rural Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
He was born January 29, 1935 in a small grey metal house behind the Barnsdall State Bank in Barnsdall, Oklahoma to Olin and Eleanor (Swift) Clapp. He was a hard worker! Starting at the age of 8 years old, he worked on oil rigs and the ice house. He graduated in 1954 from the Barnsdall High School. In 1956, he married Donna Marie Wallen in Barnsdall, Oklahoma and raised her three year old daughter Theresa Sue as his own. He continued working on oil rigs and road work. In 1966, he went to work at Petrolite. He retired from there in 1996. In 1967, Niki came along.
He was a very good bird hunter and fisherman in the 1950's and 1960's. In the 1970's he was into CB's. In the 1980's he tried the cow business. After retirement, he was a homebody. He was a member of the Whippoorwill Baptist Church of Whippoorwill, Oklahoma.
He is survived by two daughters, Niki Magee and her husband Roger and Theresa Sue Butcher and her husband Pastor Larry Butcher all of rural Pawhuska, Oklahoma; one brother, Harold Swift of rural Skiatook, Oklahoma; two sisters, Donna K. Garrett and her husband Ron and their family of rural Barnsdall, Oklahoma and Pat Taylor and her husband Max and their family of Protection, Kansas; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a host of friends; his nurses, Carol and Rachel, HHA Missy; the Cornerstone Staff; Dr. Hatchet and Dr. Chesbro.
He was preceded in death by his parents Olin and Eleanor and his wife Donna Marie.
Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Whippoorwill Baptist Church in Whippoorwill, Oklahoma with Pastor Larry Butcher officiating. Cremation will follow after the service and a private family burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial contributions to the Cornerstone Hospice and these remembrances may be left in care of the funeral home or mailed to 3414 SE Kentucky, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74056.
