Jack Shy was born September 20, 1931 to Everett James and Marna Mae (Cunning) Shy at the family home East of Lenapah, OK.
Jack joined our Lord on November 30, 2010, surrounded by his wife and son.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Marna Mae Shy, a sister, Agnes Douglas, and three brothers, Virgil, E.J. and Herb.
Jack is survived by his wife of 52 years, Heroldine of the home; a son, Jack Shy, Jr. of Coffeyville; a daughter, Billie Wages and husband, Phillip of Norman, OK; a sister, Cleeta Carlson of Colorado; and two grandsons, Joshua Wages and Nathan Wages both of Norman, OK.
Jack attended Lenapah School as he worked on the family farm. He enjoyed riding his horse "Oh Prince", and was an active Brahma Bull rider. Soon he went to work for Moore-Lowry Flour Mill as a sweeper but soon had to leave to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his discharge he returned to work at the flour mill when he was introduced to his future wife by one of her students while attending a box supper.
On June 1, 1958 he married Heroldine Pollet. In 1980 Jack became Plant Superintendent and held that position until he retired in April of 1992.
Jack was a member of the V.F.W., Good Sam's, and Carrie Lite Clubs, and the Southern Baptist Church.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville. Burial will be in the Mt. Washington Cemetery in Lenapah, OK with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20.
Friends may call on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
