Michael Lee Sanford, 47, of Coffeyville, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, MO.
He was born December 20, 1962 at Russell, KS, to Vaughn and Mattie (Lewis) Sanford. When his was young his family moved to Coffeyville, where he grew up and attended school.
On May 20, 1985 he married Peggy Peyton at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where he worked as a mechanic and carpenter. Michael and Peggy served as foster parents for eight years.
Michael was a member of Bible Baptist Church. He enjoyed radio controlled airplanes and cars, working on his truck, doing mechanical work, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family especially his children.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy of the home; three daughters, Stephanie Sprague Davis, Melissa Sprague Shaffer, and Melinda Sprague Corona all of Coffeyville; three sons, Brelyn, DeAndre', and Jose all of the home; one brother, David Sanford and wife Sue of South Coffeyville; sister, Karen Sue Smith and husband Tim of Coffeyville; half brothers, Dareall Burton, Harold Burton, and Eugene Burton all of Michigan; half sisters, Mattie Gibson and husband Jim of Marcellus, Michigan, and Cathy Burton of Michigan; seven step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jimmy Sanford and Steven Sanford.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Bible Baptist Church, with Pastor Daniel Knight officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Mound Valley, KS.
Friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family's home received major damage from a fire in August and suggest memorials to a fund being established through the Bible Baptist Church to help with fixing their home; contributions may be left with the Bible Baptist Church or the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
