Al "Cowboy" Males, 85, of rural South Coffeyville, OK, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 at his home.
He was born March 3, 1925 at Nelson, OK to Norris and Allie Males. He grew up and attended school in the Antlers, OK and Hugo, OK area.
In 1943 he joined the U.S. Army Air Force serving during World War II, he was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Anna Crimmins, together they had six children. They were later divorced.
Al moved his family to Coffeyville in 1955 when he accepted a job with the City of Coffeyville Electric Department, he retired in 1985 after 30 years of service.
On June 30, 1971 he married Eva Billups at Valeda, KS. Following their marriage they made their home east of Coffeyville until moving to rural South Coffeyville, OK following the flood.
He had attended the Baptist Church, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shrine and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with his cattle, and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Eva of the home; son, Bud Males and wife Janet of Langley, OK, daughter, Sharon High and husband Clark of Coffeyville, daughter Cathy Primo of Coffeyville, son, Donald Males and wife Vicki of Coffeyville, son Bobby Beard and wife Sherry of Coffeyville, daughter, Donna Mae Standard of Liberty, and a son, Joe Hill of South Coffeyville, OK; son-in-law, Donnie Gillespie of Coffeyville; two sisters, Patricia Mack of Soper, OK, and Bonnie of California; 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Alice Gillespie, and one son, Chuck Males.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville with Pastor Clay Bramble officiating. Burial will be in the North Edna Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the Edna Roundup Club; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
