Obituary of Betty L. Palmer

Sedan - Betty L. Palmer, age 82, of Peru, Kansas passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Betty was born May 2, 1925 in Howard, Kansas to Samuel Wilbur and Alvina (Luff) Mayne. She graduated from Severy High School. She married Merle E. Palmer on October 5, 1941 in Sedan, Kansas. They moved back and made their home in Peru, Kansas in 1953. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1997. She was the school secretary at the Peru School and then later at the Sedan Elementary School. She worked as a school secretary for thirty years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Peru United Methodist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by three sons, Merle A. "Tony" Palmer of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Larry Palmer of Peru, Kansas and Martin Lynn Palmer of Las Vegas, Nevada; one daughter, Kathrine Von Cannon of Peru, Kansas; two sisters, Coletta Vancile of Fall River, Kansas and Juanita Redman of Topeka, Kansas; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Merle, one brother and one sister. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Peru First United Methodist Church in Peru, Kansas with Reverend Dan Carr officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the KSU Basic Center for Cancer Research or the Peru First United Methodist Church and these remembrances may be left in care of David W.
