Coffeyville - Howard L. VanTieghem, 92, of Coffeyville, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014, at Medicalodge of Coffeyville. He was born March 17, 1921, at Bartlesville, OK to Joe and Ola (Snider) VanTiegham. Howard grew up and attended school in Parsons and Independence, graduating from Independence High School. Howard was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy on the battleship USS Tennesssee. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy he moved to Coffeyville in 1946 where Howard and his brother Darreld owned and operated Coffeyville Implement Co. He married Bonnie McCabe, she preceded him in death in 1996. Howard was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville. He loved his work and enjoyed collecting miniature tractors. Survivors include one step-daughter, Georgia Reed of North Carolina; one brother, Darreld VanTieghen of Coffeyville; one grandson Lance Reed; two nieces Marcia Scott of Coffeyville, and Pam Soles of Liberty; and one nephew, Butch VanTieghen of Coffeyville. Graveside Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Veterans Memorial Patio in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, with Rev. Nicole Schwartz officiating. Private Family interment will be in Cherryvale Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to Medicalodge of Coffeyville; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o/ David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
