Coffeyville - Billie Merl Houston, 79, of Edna, KS, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born November 1, 1930 at Edna to Edward and Mae (Wilmoth) Houston. He grew up and attended school in Labette County. On February 12, 1966 he married Kay Danielle Moses at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in the Edna area. Mr. Houston farmed and ranched in the Edna area, and was employed at Comet Trailer Co., Acme Foundry, and Cook Pump Co. all in Coffeyville. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He enjoyed attending and participating in Antique Tractor Pulls, and spending time with his family especially his granddaughter Erin Barnett. Survivors include his wife, Kay of the home; three sons, Brian Gibson Barnett of Edna, James Edward Houston of Bartlett, and Wayne Christopher Houston of Edna; three sister, Wynona Born of Palestine, TX, Zelma Rauch of Oswego, and Anita Wooton of Baytown, TX; and one granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Barrett of Edna. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Verl Houston, Wally Houston, Clyde Houston, and Dale Houston; and one sister, Geraldine Houston. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010 in the Lake Creek Cemetery west of Bartlett, KS with Father Ben Nguyen of Holy Name Catholic Church officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to an education fund being established for his granddaughter Erin Barnett; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
