Jack Ward, 86 of rural Independence, passed away Friday night, July 9, 2010 at Regal Estates in Independence.
He was born May 23, 1924 near the Monet community in Chautauqua County, KS, to Alfred G. "Allie" and Mattie (DeArmond) Ward. He grew up in the Monet and Hale communities until moving to Montgomery County with his family in 1932.
On May 17 1958 he married Evelyn Towell in Hominy, OK. Following their marriage they made their home south of Independence where they ranched.
He was attended the Bolton Friends Church in Bolton, KS. Jack enjoyed spending time on his ranch and attending rodeos especially ropings.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of the home; one son, Van Ward and wife Sharon of Caney; two daughters, Ruth White and husband Layne of Nickerson, KS, and Reva Shepard and husband Del of Caney; one sister, Tillie Hines of Buckeye, AZ; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Pauline Wingard, Nora Lee Swearingen, and Billie Kebert.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Bolton Friends Church with Pastor Grady Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisonville Cemetery south of Bolton.
Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care of Kansas or the Bolton Friends Church; memorials may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
