Emily (Brooke) Bruner, age 75, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014 at her home in Sedan. She was born to Wayne and Edith (Casement) Brooke in the home now occupied by Glenn and Judy Riggs in Rural Chautauqua County. She spent her early years in Lyons, Kansas before moving to Sedan with her parents. Emily attended the Sedan Schools and graduated in 1956. She attended one year at Emporia State.
On July 25th 1957, Emily and Jim Bruner were married. They lived in Highland, Indiana, Wichita, Kansas, and Bartlesville, Oklahoma before settling in Sedan in 1961.
Emily was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Chapter OC of P.E.O. and had been Treasurer of the Library Board, Bible School Teacher, past member of the Sedan Country Club, associated with the county fair for 25 years, and Cub Scout den mother.
Survivors include her husband Jim of the home, two sons and one daughter, Brad and wife Lexi of Wichita, Kansas, Greg and wife Carolyn of Topeka, Kansas, and Susan Owens and husband Jim of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, Kayme Pumphrey, Shelby Crowley, Brittany Matthew, Kelsy Bruner, David Bruner, Matthew Bruner, Daniel Bruner, Dallas Bruner, Hana Bruner, Sarah Bruner, Allison Bruner, Taylor Owens and Tanner Owens; six great-grandchildren; Addison Pumphrey, Madden Pumphrey, Carter Crowley, Gabrielle Bruner, Ariele Bruner, and Blayne Matthew.
Emily was preceded in death by her sister Susan Medill, one grandson, John Bruner, one great grandson, Parker Crowley and one grandson-in-law Brian Pumphrey, and her parents.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sedan with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating. A private family inurnment will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to the First United Methodist Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
