Dorothy J. Hett, 76, of Independence, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010 at her home.
She was born February 8, 1934 at Parsons, Kansas to Hal Timothy and Ethel Pearl (Miles) Peoples. She grew up and attended school in Childers, OK.
She married Garland Starks and he preceded her in death.
On December 22, 1962 she married Wayne Hett at Hillsboro, KS. Following their marriage they lived in Oklahoma from 1964 to 1969 when they moved to Cottonwood Falls, KS, in 1973 they moved to Cherryvale where they made their home until moving to Independence in 1994. Mrs. Hett assisted her husband in his ministry in all the towns he served as Pastor, in addition to being a homemaker and legal secretary.
Dorothy was a member of Riverside Southern Baptist Church in Independence.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Wayne Hett of the home; one son, Garry Starks of Wright, WY; four daughters, Susan Hardesty of Matfield Green, KS, Marcia LaNelle Martin of Greenville, MO, Wendy Keplinger of St. Peters, MO, and Markel Porter of Cherokee, KS; one brother, George Peoples, of Nowata, OK; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in by her parents, her first husband, Garland Starks, one daughter, Connie Starks, and two brothers, Hal Peoples, and Lewis Peoples.
A Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010 in the First Southern Baptist Church, 717 E. 6th St., in Cherryvale, KS with Pastor Tony Pameticky of the Severy Baptist Church officiating. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will the service in the Pratt Cemetery east of Independence.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church in Cherryvale.
Memorials are suggested to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or Campus Crusades for Christ; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
