Roberta A. Appier, age 88, of Andover, Kansas, previously of Chautauqua County, passed away Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Life Care Center of Andover in Andover, Kansas.
She was born March 17, 1922 in rural Chautauqua County, Kansas to Ethan and Lola (Golden) Stephens. She grew up and graduated from Peru High School in Peru, Kansas. She married Karl Rump and they later divorced. She later married David Hill who preceded her in death in 1969. She then married Allen Appier and they later divorced.
She lived in rural Chautauqua County for many years before moving to Biloxi, Mississippi and then to Wichita, Kansas where she had resided since 1971.
She worked as a sales clerk at the Better Book Room in Wichita, Kansas for seventeen years before retiring in 1988.
She was a charter member of the Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas. She loved sewing, crocheting, plastic canvas, and also her flower garden.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Rump of Canton, Kansas and Albert Rump of Andover, Kansas; three sisters, Elouise Potter of Madison, Alabama, Irene Kinley of Belton, Texas, and Donna Mattocks of rural Sedan, Kansas; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her second husband, and one sister, Barbara J. Brown.
Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas with Revs. Tim Hoeman and Gene Hughes officiating. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Colonial Heights Baptist Church and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
