Veryl L. Dennis, 83, of rural Liberty passed away Wednesday morning (January 9, 2008) at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born November 1, 1924 at rural Liberty to Lewis Edgar and Clara Aileen (Jackman) Dennis. He grew up on the family farm and attended Clymore School.
In 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy serving in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1946 he returned to the family farm in rural Liberty.
On August 6, 1974 he married Alice (Mishler) Henry in Joplin, Missouri. Following their marriage they made their home in rural Liberty where Veryl farmed.
Veryl was a member of Westside Christian Church in Coffeyville and American Legion Post #20 in Coffeyville.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of the home; two sons, Johnnie (Sandra) Henry of rural Liberty and Jerry (Kay) Henry of Carl Junction, MO; one daughters, Dixie (Denny) Badger of Corydon, IN; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (January 12, 2008) in the Westside Christian Church with Pastor Mike Elrod officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery at Liberty, KS.
Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Following visitation on Friday the casket will be closed.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
