Sedan - Geraldine M. "Geri" Newcomb, age 82, of Sedan, Kansas, previously of Coffeyville, passed away Thursday morning, May 13, 2010 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan. She was born October 9th, 1927 in Picher, Oklahoma to Charles and Bessie (Newton) Tipton. She attended Quapaw High School until the 9th grade. She married Jack W. Newcomb on April 12, 1944 in Quapaw, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1995. They were married for over fifty years. She made her home in Coffeyville, Kansas until 2008 when she moved to Sedan. She worked in retail sales for many years in Coffeyville with Paul and Betty White, managing the fashion shoe store. She also enjoyed working as a teller at the First National Bank in Coffeyville and was the first teller in Coffeyville to service the first ATM machine. She retired from the bank in 1991. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Coffeyville. She loved to travel and had the opportunity to travel the country and the world with her blessed friend Keith Buchele. She so enjoyed the many sights and cultures. She also enjoyed gardening and participating in school activities and square dancing. She was past president of Whittier PTA. She is survived by one son, Jack W. Newcomb of rural Elk City, Kansas; one daughter, Marcia G. Bishop of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Charlene Gilham of Wichita, Kansas; two brothers, Howard Tipton of Carthage, Missouri and Wayne Tipton of Texas; five grandchildren, Stacey Bishop, Melissa Fischer, Steven Howard, Jerod Newcomb, and Grant Newcomb and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Darla J. Howard and one sister, Genevieve Holcomb. The casket will be closed but friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, May 17 2010 and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville, Kansas with Dr. Wayne Norton officiating. Interment will follow at the Baxter Springs Cemetery in Baxter Springs, Kansas. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N.
