Eleanor Shaw, 88, of Coffeyville passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 17, 1922 at Sawyer, Minnesota to Edward and Mary (Korpela) Niemi. She grew up on the family farm near Sawyer, where she attended grade school. She graduated as salutatorian from Cloquet High School in Cloquet, MN.
In 1940 Eleanor moved to Coffeyville where her sister lived. During World War II she was employed as a bookkeeper at Muller Construction.
On March 7, 1942 she married Samuel Shaw at Nowata, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Mr. Shaw owned and operated Shaw's Blacksmith and Welding Shop on Walnut Street and Mrs. Shaw was bookkeeper. Mr. Shaw preceded her in death on April 19, 1989.
Mrs. Shaw was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and was active in helping with church dinners, she especially enjoyed helping with the annual Oktoberfest dinner.
Survivors include two sons, David Shaw and Sam Shaw both of Tulsa, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, George Niemi, John Niemi, and Paul Niemi; and one sister, Ellen Russell.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Peckman officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to St. Paul's Lutheran Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
