Coffeyville -
David G. "D.G." Hanna, 82 of Coffeyville, 82, a lifelong Coffeyville resident and former Chief of the Coffeyville Fire Department, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at his home.
He was born September 15, 1927 at Coffeyville to Solomon E. "Sol" and Louriene (Lansdown) Hanna. D.G. grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School and attended Coffeyville Junior College.
D.G. was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy, following his discharge he returned to Coffeyville.
On March 31, 1947 he married Mary Jo McIntyre in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville and D.G. began his career with the Coffeyville Fire Department, he was with the Fire Department for 31 years, serving as Chief for 11 years. After retiring from the Fire Department he was a school bus driver for 13 years. His wife preceded him in death on January 8, 2009.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville, V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20 both in Coffeyville, a life member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and a member and past president of the Kansas Association of Fire Chiefs.
Survivors include two sons, David Hanna and wife Rita, and James Hanna and wife Ricki all of Coffeyville; one brother, Dale Morris of Green River, WY; one sister, Leota Jaggers of Bartlesville, OK; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and five brothers, James Hanna, Ralph Hanna, Sol Hanna, Lewis Hanna, and Paul Hanna.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2010 in the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Diane Massey officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy.
Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
