Harold D. Reed Sr., age 74, of Peru, Kansas passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan.
He was born February 5, 1936 in Rural Havana, Kansas to Alfred W. and Edith C. (Banning) Reed. He grew up and attended school in Peru and graduated from Peru High School in 1954. He was a lifetime resident of the Peru area.
On August 10, 1957 he married Edna Reed in Sedan, Kansas. They made their home in Peru, Kansas. He worked as an oil producer and pumper his whole life as well as mowing and marking spaces at the Peru Cemetery. He also was the manager at Chautauqua County Shop and Supply.
Harold was actively involved in the Peru Fire Department Rural District #3 for forty seven years; he spent his whole life working on the fire department and also on his oil production. He was the mayor of Peru and also served on the Peru City Council for over fifty years. He also was on the Peru Cemetery Board for many years.
He is survived by his wife Edna of the home in Peru, Kansas; two daughters, Elizabeth (Betti) and husband Craig Brookover of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Tracy Ann and husband Norty Frickey of Lakewood, Colorado; one son, Harold D. Reed Jr. and wife Annette of Peru, Kansas; two sisters, Peggy (Reed) Ballard of San Pablo, California and Deena (Reed) O'Keefe of Richmond, California; one brother, Carl Victor Reed and wife Gidgette of Sedan, Kansas; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and one grandson.
Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday thru Friday, April 14 thru April 16, 2010 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The family has requested cremation.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Peru Cemetery in Peru, Kansas with Pastors Vernon Howerton of God's Lighthouse of Prayer in Peru and John Warring of the First Christian Church of Sedan officiating.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Peru Fire Department and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
