Harold Lavon DeTar, 86 , lifelong rural Liberty resident, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born January 15, 1924 in rural Liberty to Frank and Loveta (Wilson) DeTar. He grew up and attended school in the Liberty area and graduated from Liberty High School.
On April 14, 1945 he married Ann Josephine "Jo" Maher at All Saints Catholic Church in Liberty. Following their marriage they made their home in rural Liberty where Harold farmed.
Harold was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville.
Survivors include his wife Jo DeTar of the home; one son Thomas DeTar of rural Liberty; one daughters, Theresa Jane DeTar of Clearwater, KS; one brother, Don DeTar of rual Coffeyville; one sister, Irene Crandell of rural Dearing; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Dave DeTar in 1970 and Anthony DeTar; two brothers, and one sister.
A Rosary Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery east of Liberty, KS.
Friends may call on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
