Darlene J. Stephenson, age 79, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Monday, January 7, 2008 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas.
She was born October 20, 1928 in the Belknap Community to Ralph Wilson and Bessie Violet (Storms) McAlister. She attended school at Belknap, Kansas and graduated from Sedan High School in Sedan, Kansas. She married Wilmer R. Stephenson on November 2, 1946 in Sedan, Kansas, where they made their home. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2002.
She retired from the Sedan City Hospital after thirty years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sedan, Beta Sigma Phi, Chatty Kathy Quilters, Business Women's, Red Hatters and Dorcas.
She is survived by three sons, Jim Stephenson of Augusta, Kansas, Scott Stephenson of Sedan, Kansas and John Stephenson of Augusta, Kansas; one daughter, Susan Dawson of Emporia, Kansas; one brother, Melvin McAlister of Moline, Kansas; five sisters, Wanda McAlister of Wichita, Kansas, Helen Youcham of Hooker, Oklahoma, Phyllis Hawkins of rural Moline, Kansas, Mary Osborn of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Karen Hey of Independence, Kansas; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilmer and two brothers.
Family and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Sedan with Reverend Jerry Bever and Earl Tresner officiating. Interment will follow at the Belknap Cemetery, located northwest of Sedan.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas Street, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
