Ronald Leaman, 75, of South Coffeyville, OK, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born September 17, 1934 at Pittsburg, KS to William S. and Lila B. (Morrison) Leaman. His family lived in Monmouth, KS until he was 10 when they moved to Moran, KS where he completed grade school and high school graduating from Moran High School. He received his Bachelors Degree in Education and later a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Pittsburg State University.
Ronald was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from August 1953 until receiving his Honorable Discharge in August 1957.
On August 21, 1960 he married Julia "Judy" Coop at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville and South Coffeyville area where Mr. Leaman taught school. He taught school at Peru, Tyro, Cherryvale, Holy Name School and Lowell School both in Coffeyville, and South Coffeyville where he taught Jr. High Science until retiring in 1994.
Mr. Leaman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the National Education Assoc. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking and was an avid reader.
Survivors include his wife, Judy of the home; one son, Mark Leaman of Independence; two sisters, Twyla Nevitt of College Station, TX, and Barbara Mosher of Coffeyville; two grandchildren, Will S. Leaman, and Haley Leaman; and one great-grandson, Brett Leaman. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Michael, two brothers, and one sister.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville with Pastor Diane Massey officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park in Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville or the American Cancer Society; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
