Sedan - John Richard Sherbon, age 80, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas. He was born February 16, 1930 in Simpson, Kansas to Reginald Vernon and Regaina Mae (Sperry) Sherbon. He attended and graduated from high school in Lincoln, Kansas. He served in the United States Navy as an Electrician's Mate before being honorably discharged. He later worked as an area manager in both Independence, Kansas and the surrounding area for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 34 years, retiring in 1987. He married Lena Mae Smith on January 23, 1955 in Manhattan, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Lena Mae Sherbon of the home in Sedan, Kansas; three sons, Kenneth R. Sherbon and Lyle E. Sherbon and his wife Dawn, all of Wichita, Kansas and James R. Sherbon and his wife Tammy of Neodesha, Kansas; one daughter, Dera McNown and her husband Kenny of Moline, Kansas; one brother, Robert Sherbon of Garnett, Kansas; one sister, Ruth Storer of Osborne, Kansas; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Sedan with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Sedan and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N.
