Coffeyville - Albert Charles Liebert, 77, Coffeyville, Kan. died on the evening of Sunday, February 28, 2010, in his childhood and family home. He was born October 3, 1932, Coffeyville, Kan. the fourth son of Albert L. and Mamie Jordan Liebert. On June 23, 1962, Mr. Liebert was united in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony with Geraldine "Jerry" Ann Walterscheid at Holy Name Catholic Church, Coffeyville, Kan. by his brother, Father William "Bill" Liebert, SVD. To this union was born three daughters: Ann Marie, Mary, and Jane Ellen. His business interests were chairman of Liebert Bros. Electric Co. located in Coffeyville, Kan. founded by his father and uncle in 1911. He began working at Liebert Bros. in 1955 serving as the company's Assistant Treasurer. From 1967 - 1976, he served as Director and Treasurer until 1976 when he became partner with his brother, Robert L. Liebert, and longtime friend, Emil W. Roesky, Jr. Mr. Liebert was a director of First National Bank of Coffeyville, Kan. from 1967-1998 (Bank IV, Boatmen's, NationsBank, and known today as Bank of America). Mr. Liebert was a lifetime member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Coffeyville, Kan. involved with various activities including: Knights of Columbus since 1959, CCD teacher 1960-1964, CCD president 1964-1965, Men's Choir 1958-1965, Holy Name Building and Finance Committee since 1999, and served as the school's PTO President 1970-1972, and chaired the Holy Name Carnival 1971-1986. Mr. Liebert also served on the Catholic Diocese of Wichita, Kan. Finance Council since 2001. He served as President of the Holy Name Credit Union 1957-1987. Mr. Liebert was involved in community activities including Board of Director for the Coffeyville Historical Society; Board of Director for Coffeyville Chamber of Commerce 1963-1976, President 1966-1967, Chairman of State Affairs Committee 1962-1963, and V.P. Governmental Affairs Division 1963-1966; Kansas State Chamber of Commerce Education Council 1968-1970 and the Vocational Education Committee 1972-1973; Coffeyville Industries, Inc. director since 1967, President 1973-1977; and Coffeyville Merchants Association from 1964-1984, President 1981-1984. He was also a longtime member of the 1500 club. Mr. Liebert's other civic interests included serving as Chairman and President of the "Coffeyville at 100" centennial celebration in 1969; Coffeyville City Commissioner 1985-1995, Vice Mayor 1987-1989, and Mayor 1989-1993; member of the Kansas City Society of Financial Analysts 1956-1966; and Chairman of the Electric Utility Advisory Board 1965-1966. Mr. Liebert graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and History from Conception Seminary College, Conception, Mo. After further study at Catholic University, Washington, D.C., he returned to Coffeyville, Kan. in 1955 and entered the family business. He graduated in 1950 from Conception Seminary High School, Conception, Mo. and Holy Name Catholic School in 1946. He was also a licensed master electrician. Mr. Liebert was recipient of the following: 2009 Montgomery County Kansas Bankers Association Soil Conservation Award for conservation practices on his farm property, 2009 Coffeyville Community College Alumna and Friend Award for continued support of the college, 1995 Appreciation by the City of Coffeyville for commitment to service, 1988 American Red Cross Pioneer Chapter Exceptional Volunteer Service Award bestowed upon the Albert Liebert Family for board leadership, outstanding participation in water safety, youth, and blood services, 1984 Conception Seminary College Abbot Frowin Conrad Distinguished Service Award for service to the Catholic Church and civic community, and 1974 Boss of the Year of the Gregg Ann Chapter of the Coffeyville National Secretaries Association. Survivors include his beloved wife, Geraldine "Jerry" Ann Liebert, daughter and son-in-law Ann Marie and Tim Vannoster, Coffeyville, Kan., daughter Mary Liebert Franklin, Tulsa, Okla., and daughter Jane Ellen Liebert, Lawrence, Kan. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Kari Ann Vannoster and Katie Marie Vannoster, Coffeyville, Kan., and three grandsons, Albert Jay "A.J." Franklin, William Thomas Franklin, and John "Jack" David Franklin, Tulsa, Okla. Other survivors include brother, Robert L. Liebert, Coffeyville, Kan. with whom he co-owned Liebert Bros. Electric Co. since 1976, brother, Father William "Bill" Thomas Liebert, SVD, Techny, Ill, sister-in-law, Jean Walterscheid, Coffeyville, Kan., sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jane "Dinger" and John Catone, Coffeyville, Kan., niece, Caroline Law, Lenexa, Kan., niece, Carol Oneslager, Wichita, Kan., and nephew, James Catone, North Huntington, Pen. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lucille A. Liebert, brother, John Liebert, infant, and sister-in-law Patricia "Pat" Liebert. Visitation is Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Holy Name Catholic Church, 408 Willow Street, Coffeyville, Kan., 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 5, 2010 at Holy Name Catholic Church followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kan. A private funeral dinner will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church gymnasium after burial. Mr. Liebert requests donations to "Holy Name Catholic School," 406 Willow Street, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
