Long-time Coldwater, MI and Mt. Angel, Oregon resident Betty Grayce Kelly passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, February 27, 2010 in Mt. Angel, Oregon a the age of 93.
Born September 16, 1916 in Sorona, California to Joseph and Grayce Tschida, she was raised in Tacoma, Washington where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1935. After graduation Betty was hired by Hunt and Mottet in Tacoma as an accountant manager/bookkeeper and was involved in many activities, including the Cardinal Club, Catholic Daughters of America and an amateur theatre group, where she met her future husband Patrick H. Kelly. Together they lived in various cities and states and had six daughters and one son. Betty devoted her life to her children while they were growing up and was an active member of St. Charles Church and Altar Society in Coldwater, Michigan while also volunteering at various community programs and services.
Betty, known for her photographic memory and ability to live in the present, loved life and cherished her family and many lifelong friends that gave her much joy. She was an avid reader, theatre lover and traveler who enjoyed bridge, bingo and bowling. She will be remembered for her wisdom, kindness, compassion, humor and positive spirit that touched so many lives.
Betty is survived by her son Patrick H. Kelly of Lenexa, Kansas; daughters Kathleen Kelly of New York, New York, Janine Clay of Durham, NC, Colleen Kelly of Coos Bay, Oregon, Maureen Kelly of Elburn, IL, Lorine Strang of Rockford, IL, Doreen Kelly of Silverton, Oregon; brothers Robert Tschida and Jack Tschida, both of Tacoma, Washington and eight grandchildren.
Rosary Vigil Services will take place at 5:30 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Holy Name Cathlolic Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Mt. Angel, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Willamette Valley Hospice at 1015 3rd Street Northwest, Salem, Orgeon 97304-4007, whose volunteers cared for her at her home during her final days, or you may mail the remembrances in c/o David W.
