Coffeyville - Paul Walter Baker, 74 of Wayside, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010 at his home. He was born April 20, 1935 in rural Fredonia, Kansas to Jay and Bernice (Hale) Baker. He attended grade school in Caney before graduating from Havana High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1960 serving in active duty until being honorably discharged in 1961. He was a member of the Kansas National Guard until 1992, serving his country for over thirty years. On November 10, 1963 he married Anita Stout in Coffeyville, Kansas. They later moved to Wayside where they have lived for twenty eight years. He was a life-long Montgomery County resident. He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for thirty years as a mechanic until he retired in 1997. He was very active in the Montgomery County 4-H programs as well as FFA, he also enjoyed working, haying, going to any kind of fair with the grandkids, especially the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. He also was an inventor. Survivors include his wife Anita of the home in Wayside, Kansas; one daughter, Tammie Doub of Bolton, Kansas and one son, Tim Baker also of Bolton, Kansas; two brothers, Dale Baker of Independence, Kansas and Keith Baker of Neodesha, Kansas; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Bolton Friends Church in Bolton, KS with Pastor Grady Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Harrisonville Cemetery south of Bolton. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to the Montgomery County 4-H Premium Livestock Sale and memorials may be left in care of the David W.
