Coffeyville - George Edwin Frye, 80, of rural Caney, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. He was born January 21, 1930, at Baltimore, Maryland to George Dewey and Mary (Broch) Frye. When he was young his family moved to the Cascade Community west of Caney where he grew up and attended school. In 1951 he joined the U.S. Army serving with Company C, 63rd Infantry in Korea, following his discharge in 1953 he returned to the Cascade area. On May 2, 1952 he married Erma Grimes at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in the Cascade Community. George was employed as a pressman at KOPCO in Caney for 25 years. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Erma of the home; four sons, Bob Frye and wife Robin of Council Grove, KS, Steve Frye and wife Karon of Caney, Dan Frye and wife Kim of Moundridge, KS, and Mark Frye and wife Melissa of Pawhuska, OK; one brother, Jim Frye of Kingston, OK; two sisters, Shirley Shelton of Coffeyville, and Marilyn Weaver of South Coffeyville, OK; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters. A Graveside Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2010 in the Fairview Cemetery at Niotaze, KS (in case of inclement weather the service will be in the Cascade Community Building) with Pastor Rita Boyle officiating. The family suggests memorials to the Cascade Community Building; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
