Obituary of Clifford H. Sanders

Caney - Clifford H. Sanders, age 72, of Caney, Kansas passed away early Friday morning, January 4, 2008 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. He was born July 12, 1935 in rural Sedan, Kansas toB.L. and Thelma (Banning) Sanders. He grew up and attended school in Sedan until the 11th grade. He worked for Jensen Brothers Manufacturing for many years, retiring in 1981. He also worked at several area lumber yards. He married Shirley Defenbaugh on November 1, 1958 in Caney, Kansas. They have been residents of Caney for forty-nine years. When he lived in Sedan he attended the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed quail hunting and doing activities with his grandkids. He also enjoyed taking care of his livestock. He is survived by his wife Shirley Sanders of the home in Caney, Kansas; one son, Clifford "Butch" Sanders and his wife Debra and one daughter, Tanyla (Sanders) Artherton and her husband Mark, all of Caney, Kansas; two brothers, Ronnie Sanders of Dewey, Oklahoma and Gene Sanders of rural Copan, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Coty and Cameron Artherton and Bonda and Brock Sanders and one great-grandchild, Brycen Frank. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Family and friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Caney with Mark Artherton officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial contributions to the Can/Kan Dreambuilders, Friends of the Library and these remembrances may be left in care of David W.
