Zelda Wilkinson, age 96, of Cedar Vale passed away Saturday morning February 6, 2010 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
She was born south of Hewins, Kansas to Sam E. and Viola (Blankinship) Wilkinson. She went to school in Hewins until the eighth grade and then she went to Cedar Vale High School graduating in 1935.
After High School she entered nurses training school in Wichita, Kansas graduating as a Licensed Registered Nurse in 1938. She worked in Kansas City for six years, as the Director of Nurses and then moved to Dallas, Texas where she spent one year before moving to Pawhuska, Oklahoma where she worked for two years. After returning to Cedar Vale she worked many years for Dr. Hayes and also in Sedan for Dr. Taylor until her retirement in 1978.
She was a member of the Cedar Vale Baptist Church and the Rebekah Lodge in Cedar Vale. She loved bowling and playing cards.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
She is survived by two nieces; Winajean McKenzie of Cedar Vale, Kansas and Linda Travis of Wichita, Kansas; two nephews, Royal Kennedy of Cedar Vale, Kansas and Melvin Kennedy of Monett, Missouri; and many great nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends may call on Monday, February 8, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
Church services will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cedar Vale, Kansas with Pastor Mark Davis officiating. Burial will follow at the Cedar Vale Cemetery.
The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church of Cedar Vale and the People's Place of Cedar Vale in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
