Betty L. Holt, age 76, of Newton, Kansas, formerly of Grainola, Oklahoma passed away Monday, February 1, 2010 at the Newton Presbyterian Manor in Newton, Kansas.
She was born August 19, 1933 in Grainola, Oklahoma to Bert and Bessie (Farrington) Kelly. She graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1952. She married Fred Hawkins in 1953 and they later divorced. She married Bud Holt in 1964 and they later divorced.
She was a small business owner and lived in Cedar Vale, Kansas for 67 years before moving to Wichita, Kansas for 4 years, later moving to Newton, Kansas where she resided for the past four years.
She was a member of the Cedar Vale United Methodist Church. She loved sports, especially basketball and football. She loved her family and enjoyed being with them, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed selling Avon products.
She is survived by one son, Doug Holt and his wife Kim of rural Cedar Vale, Kansas; one daughter, Terri Hawkins of Wichita, Kansas; two step-daughters, Tammy Holt of Peculiar, Missouri and Tracy Pratt of Branson, Missouri; two sisters, Roberta Holverson of Wichita, Kansas and Cleota Steinbach of Overton, Nebraska and three grandchildren, Andrew Holt of St. Paul, Kansas, Denton Holt of Pittsburg, Kansas and Chelsea Holt of Piedmont, Kansas; four nephews, Michael Holler, Pat Holler, Mike Steinbach, and Steve Steinbach; four nieces, Trudy Swint, Ginger Steinbach, Cindy Davenport, and Lisa Muncaster.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Robin Muncaster.
The casket will be closed and friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2010 and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2010the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale, Kansas with Reverend Jerry Bever of the First United Methodist Church of Sedan officiating.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Betty L. Holt Scholarship Fund or the Newton Presbyterian Manor, Alzheimer's Unit and these remembrances may be mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
