Coffeyville - Gene M. Brownlee, 62, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Medicalodge of Coffeyville. He was born July 20, 1951, at Independence to Clifford and Mary Ann (Wilson) Brownlee. He grew up and attended schools at Independence. After graduating from Independence High School and Independence Community College he went on to Pittsburg State University getting his degree in education. Gene continued his education by earning a Master's degree in education. On August 19, 1972 he married Jann Heslop at Independence. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville where they both taught school. Gene taught school in U.S.D. 445 for many years until retiring about 5 years ago. His wife preceded him in death on March 14, 2012. Survivors include one son James Brownlee and wife Becca of Joplin MO; and three grandchildren, Nikki, Michael and Vincent Brownlee. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. A Memorial Service celebrating Gene's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville with Rev. James "Budg" Riekeman officiating. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
