Betty M. Garretson, 78, of South Coffeyville, OK, passed away Monday (November 5, 2007) at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, KS.
She was born February 4, 1929 at Bartlesville, OK, to Andrew E. and Opal (Jackson) Medford. In 1930 her family moved to Coffeyville, where she grew up and attended Longfellow and Lowell Elementary Schools, Roosevelt Junior High School and Field Kindley High School graduating in 1946. During World War II she worked at the Soda Fountain at J.J. Newberry's, following the war she worked with her brother Leonard at the Hamburger Inn.
On December 6, 1949, she married Ronald K. Garretson at Liberty, Kansas. Following their marriage they moved to their ranch near South Coffeyville where they raised their family and made their home. Mr. Garretson precede her in death on August 15, 2000.
Betty was a charter member of the Central Church of the Nazarene, where she served as Sunday School Teacher for both Adults and Children classes, and served on the Church Board. In 1994 she joined the First Church of the Nazarene where she was active with the Children's Caravan and served on the Church Board. For many years Betty helped with the Snow Creek 4-H Club.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Ronald and Gloria Garretson of Coffeyville, Richard and Cindy Garretson of South Coffeyville, OK, Randal and Tammy Garretson of Coffeyville, and Robert Garretson of rural South Coffeyville, OK; three sisters, Velma Teter of Wakarusa, KS, Shirley Miller of Joplin, MO, and Barbara Tipton of Topeka, KS; 4 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, and 4 great grandsons and 3 great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, one sister, and three grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday (November 9, 2007) at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Ford Hall officiating.
Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the First Church of the Nazarene; contributions may be left with the funeral home.
