Obituary of Lorene Runyon

Lorene Runyon, 98, a lifelong Sedan resident, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Sibley, LA. She was born June 19, 1916, at Leeds, KS to Jay B. and Myrtle (Lee) McNown. Lorene grew up and attended Prairie Center School in the Leeds area of Chautauqua County, graduated from Sedan High School. On May 16, 1936, she married Paul Runyon at Sedan. Following their marriage they made their home in Sedan where they raised their children. For many years Lorene worked for the City of Sedan. Her husband preceded her in death. Lorene was a member of the First Christian Church in Sedan, PEO Chapter DC, Order of Eastern Star, and the Tuesday Study Club. Paul and Lorene enjoyed camping, belonging to the Chief Black Dog Campers, and the Good Sam's and Honey Bee's Camping Group. But most of all Lorene loved spending time with her family, especially her children, and grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Alford of Sibley, LA; two sisters, Alta Erlick of Nowata, OK, and Peggy Ward of Wichita, KS; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Larry Runyon; three sisters, and three brothers. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2014, at the First Christian Church in Sedan with Rev. John Warring, and Rev. Myrna Jo Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
