Earl Strickland, 83, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Medicalodge of Coffeyville. He was born November 25, 1931, at Plumerville, AR to Henry and Pauline (Hardiman) Strickland. Earl grew up in began his education in Arkansas, before moving to Coffeyville with his family where he completed his education graduating from Field Kindley High School. After graduating from high school Earl began his career in the U.S. Army serving for over 20 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a Staff Sergeant when he retired. Following his retirement from the Army he returned to Coffeyville and worked as custodian for many years at Holy Name Catholic School. Earl was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Coffeyville. He loved to cook and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include one sistet-in-law, Bernice Strickland of Coffeyville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ollie Strickland and Willie Strickland; and two sisters, Elizabeth Thurman, and Laberta Jackson. A Memorial Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Fairview Cemetery Veterans Memorial Patio. Military Honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
