Obituary of James F. Cotton

James Francis Cotton, 91, of Coffeyville passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014, at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. He was born June 1, 1923, at Prue, OK to Uras A. and Callie (Horton) Cotton. James grew up and attended school in Prue and Stillwater, OK. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. On July 21, 1943, he married Vera L. Welch at Pawnee, OK. Following their marriage they lived in Oklahoma while he served in the U.S. Army, after his discharge they moved to Coffeyville in October 1946. James worked in maintenance at Moore-Lowry Flour Mill in Coffeyville for many years and also farmed. He attended Emmanuel Chapel in South Coffeyville, OK, and the Masonic Lodge. James enjoyed working on his farm, traveling, and rodeo's. Survivors include one daughter, Frances Kuehn of Coffeyville, one son, William Cotton of Elk City; one sister, Wiladean Barnett of Owasso, OK; three brothers, Omer Ledbetter of Bixby, OK, Jesse Ledbetter of Connecticut, and Leroy Ledbetter of Tennessee; eight grandchildren, and twenty-five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Melvin "Hefty" Cotton; and one brother. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Emmanuel Chapel in South Coffeyville, OK with Pastor Virgil Rexwinkle officiating. Following the service cremation will take place, private family inurnment in Jefferson Cemetery northwest of Coffeyville will take place at a later date. Friends may call on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
