Ursula Turner passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at her home in Coffeyville, Kansas at the age of 74. She was born in Allendorf, Germany to Karl and Erna Winter, both deceased. She married Kenneth E.L. Augustine in 1959; they divorced in 1980. She married Jack W. Turner in 1987. Ursula is survived by her husband of the home; and her children, Michael D. Augustine of Leavenworth, Kansas; Elizabeth A. Jones Kansas and Karen K. Burkenbine both of Salina, Kansas; as well a sister Mechthold Walter of Launsbach, Germany. She also leaves ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She attended two years of college at Coffeyville Community College, concentrating on all writing classes. She worked as a clerk at TG&Y until they closed and at Emerson Electric until they moved to Mexico. She attended the Vocational Technical School for one year, learning as much as she could about computers and finally became Lifestyle Editor for the Coffeyville Journal from which she retired in 2006. Ursula was an accomplished writer. She self-published eight books and put together about the founding of Coffeyville. She served as president of Night Writers of Coffeyville as well as the Third District of the Kansas Authors Club of which she was a member. She won a number of awards for her writing efforts. Until her illness no longer permitted it, she was a member of the hospital auxiliary and had been a member of Sertoma in the past. Following Ursula wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering celebrating Ursula's life will be held at the Coffeyville Public Library on Saturday January 10, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
