Gary Lorn Busey, 82, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born July 25, 1932 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Virgil Lorn and Ella Marie (Elder) Busey. He graduated from the Wann High School and attended Coffeyville Community College. He married Shirley Ruth Redden on June 24, 1955 in Wann, Oklahoma. He had been a resident of South Coffeyville since 1960. Gary served in the Army from 1953 – 1955; going to work at Farmland Industries after an honorable discharge. He retired from there in 1994 after thirty nine years of employment as a boilermaker and welder. He was a member of the South Coffeyville Methodist Church, past member of the South Coffeyville Lions Club, American Legion Post #20, and a retired member of the Boilermakers Union, Local 83 of Kansas City, Missouri. Gary was known for his coaching of girls softball teams in the 1970's. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, infant son, Gary Lorn Busey, Jr. and infant daughter, Amy Marie Busey. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley of the home; three daughters, Gayla Jones (Tom), Ronda Muller (Tony) and Lana Busey, all of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; four granddaughters, Misty Wishall (Tom) of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Nikole Drum (Chris) of Derby, Kansas, Lindsay Batchelder (Jeremy) of Copan, Oklahoma and Breck Muller (Kristina) of Owasso, Oklahoma; two step-grandsons, Troy Jones and Earl Jones of Coffeyville, Kansas and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Gail "Doc" Busey of St. Joseph, Missouri; brother-in-law, Virgil Redden (Jan) of Shasta, CA; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Dorsey of Drumright, OK, and Janetta Hynous (Mike) of Lexington, KY. Funeral services will be Monday, March 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the South Coffeyville Methodist Church in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma with Jerry Coldren officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville with Military Honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. Visitation will be Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Heart of America Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis in honor of his great-grandchildren, Charli and Dawson.
