Obituary of Edith I. Filson
Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edith Irene "Edie" Filson, 71 passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015, at her home in Coffeyville.
Edie was born March 24, 1944, to Babe Chester and Edith Inez (Davis) Lewis in Coffeyville, Kansas. She grew up in Coffeyville and attended Field Kindley High School.
She married Maurice Filson on May 1, 1964, in Coffeyville, Kansas. They had two children, Jonathan and Shauna.
Edie was the first front desk switchboard operator for the Townsman Inn in the 1970's. Whenever the switchboard was slow, she would pitch in and help clean the motel rooms. After her children were grown, she maintained jobs at CRMC as a housekeeper, St. Paul's Episcopal Church as secretary and making donuts at Casey's.
For a time she and her sister, Debbie Hendrix traveled to neighboring cities, setting up craft booths and enjoying their time together. She also had many paintings that were displayed in Georgia's cafeteria.
She and Jonathan spent many overnight hours fishing and enjoying fellowship at State Lake. She loved spending time with her grandkids. She was one of the most unselfish people; always thinking of others. Even while in her hospital bed after her diagnosis, she called each person in her Sunday school class, speaking out prayers and blessings for each of them and thanking her Heavenly Father for them. She also loved making baby blankets and donating them to the Jasper County Sheriff's patrol to be used for infants involved in accidents.
She is preceded in death by her father and one brother, Mark Andrew Lewis.
She is survived by her husband, Maurice of the home, her son Jonathan and his wife, Alyson of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma and her daughter Shauna Beye of Coffeyville, Kansas, her mother, Edith Inez Lewis of Coffeyville, four grandchildren, Rebekkah Gayle Filson, David Lynn Filson, Abigail Marie Filson and Emily Irene Beye. She is also survived by one brother, Kenneth Lewis and his wife Sudah of San Antonio, Texas and one sister, Debbie Hendrix and her husband, Richard of Coffeyville, Kansas.
