Obituary of Donald J. Lind

Donald Joseph "Don" Lind, 78, of Coffeyville a long time Coffeyville Community College Math and Physical Science instructor passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 30, 1938, at Coffeyville to Edward J. and Mary Patricia (O'Connell) Lind. Don grew up in Coffeyville attending Holy Name Catholic School, Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville Community College. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Pittsburg State University and his Master's Degree from Emporia State University. On August 19, 1961, he was united in marriage to Brenda B. Bever at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Westmoreland, KS where Don taught school at Westmoreland High School for two years before moving to Fredonia where he taught at Fredonia High School. In 1964, they returned to Coffeyville when Don began his career at Coffeyville Community College where he was a Math and Physics instructor, and later started the Computer Science Department; he served CCC until retiring in 2000. After his retirement he served on the Coffeyville Community College Board of Trustees. Don was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church; he was a Eucharistic Minister and Rosary Leader. He enjoyed volunteering in the Lunchroom and teaching Robotics at Holy Name Catholic School. Survivors include his wife, Brenda of the home; one son, Gregory Lind and wife Paula of Elmhurst, IL; three daughters, Lisa Payne and husband Kendall of Coffeyville, Lori Toms and husband Michael of Draycott, England, and Kimberlee Smith and husband Steve of Douglasville, GA; one sister, one brother, Michael Lind and wife Jan of Broken Arrow, OK; Julia Wadkins and husband Steve of Parsons, KS; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ed Lind; and three sisters, Catherine Borum, Dorothy Davenport, and Patricia Dann. A Rosary Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Chad Arnold officiating. Inurnment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may sign the register book on Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic School; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
