Obituary of Wallie Dean Maxson

Wallie Maxson, 71, formerly of Coffeyville passed away at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, OK on Wednesday, September 14, 2016. Wallie was born August 4, 1945 in Coffeyville, KS to Carvel Wallie and Bessie Dean Maxson. He grew up in the Edna community and was active in the band where he played clarinet, 4-H, Edna Round-Up Club and United Methodist Church Group. He also had major parts in the plays and musicals at LCCHS where he graduated from in 1963. In 1965, he graduated from Coffeyville Junior College where he was again active in drama. At Emporia State he majored in Speech and graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in 1967. He enjoyed the Ecumenical Fellowship there and had roommates who went there also. In the next few years, he lived in Bartlesville and worked at Montgomery Ward. Kansas City became his home for over 25 years. There he worked in jewelry for 16 years at Dolgin's Department Store, later working at J.C. Penney's. In 1997, he moved to Coffeyville where he worked at McDonald's and later at Kentucky Fried Chicken. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Coffeyville, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and liked to joke with people. He retired and moved to Bartlesville, enjoying his retirement group until becoming a resident at Forrest Manor Nursing Home in Dewey 4 years ago. He loved to play Bingo. He was preceded in death by his father, Carvel Maxson and mother, Bessie Isaacs, step-father Jack Isaacs and one step-nephew, Kyle McCoy. He is survived by his sister, Connie Nehrbass of Coffeyville, one step-sister Jackie (Isaacs) Hughes of Moore, OK, and one step-brother, John Isaacs, also of Coffeyville, one niece, Robin Gudde and husband Terry of Altamont, KS, 2 nephews, Scott Nehrbass and wife, Jenny of Olathe, KS and Max Nehrbass and wife Elisa of Topeka, KS, step-niece Keri Warren, 2 step-nephews, Korby Neifing and Kris Neifing and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church at 2:00 p .m. with Pastor David Kim and Pastor Gabriel Nehrbass officiating. Cremation will follow honoring the family's wishes. Visitation will be Saturday, September 17, 2016 at David W. Barnes Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The Family will receive friends 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society and may left at the David W.
