Donald R. Bookter, 84, of Coffeyville, passed away Monday, October 14, 2013, at Medicalodge of Coffeyville.
He was born November 21, 1928, at Snoqualmie, WA to George and Lottie (Sliger) Bookter. When he was young his family moved to Montgomery County, first making their home in Tyro for a short time before moving to Coffeyville where he grew up and attended school. Don completed his education at Caney graduating from Caney High School in 1947.
On November 12, 1948, he married Mary Pocock at Pawhuska, OK. Following their marriage they made home in Coffeyville where Don was a salesman for Junge Bakery for 36 years. Following his retirement Don stayed busy taking care of their apartments and rental property.
Don attended the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville, and was a long time member of the Honey Bee Good Sam's Camping Club. He loved being outdoors and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home; one daughter, Brenda Pratt of Van Buren, AR; one sister, Virginia Harris of Bedford, TX; one brother, David Bookter of Parker, CO; five grandchildren, Tony Roe, Justin Roe, Kerri Copeland, Kelli Reiner, and Angela Perkins; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Kristi Roe.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 17, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
